Planning

New building projects can be detrimental to the heritage of the area. The stone built Northfields House (pictured right) was regrettably demolished in 2002 and replaced with 7 houses.

Decisions on planning applications are made by District Councillors who attend planning meetings at SKDC Headquarters in Grantham. Their decisions are based  on advice from their professional planners and from Stamford Town Council.  The Stamford Civic Society, the local police,
and sometimes  the local MP may express their views if objections are to be made. Residents may also approach Councillors to object.

I
ndividuals can
make a very valuable contribution indeed if they wish to object to the planning application by sending their objections by e-mail or in writing to South Kesteven District Council (SKDC)

A leaflet called "Making Comments On Planning Applications" is available from SKDC at Maiden Lane in Stamford. The objector should comment on items such as dominant or out of keeping building design, damage to mature trees, and the traffic and parking impact on safety. Mention should be made of the Conservation Area.

If the application fails, the applicant may appeal to the Planning Inspectorate to have the decision reversed.
